Do you have a lifeline? It may be a place, a friend, even scripture, that you go to when you feel discouraged, or you are going through a difficult time and need help, encouragement, and hope.
The definition of a lifeline: a person or thing that you can rely on or trust.
My lifeline is Proverbs 3:5,6. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths."
Although the path may not always be the one I would choose, I trust the Lord, I acknowledge Him, and I know HE is with me and will direct me.
It seems like for many, because of our busy lives, we could all use a lifeline. It is crucial and vital to our lives. The world will try to take us away from our spiritual life which will leave us feeling hopeless, then we begin to feel distant from God. Don't let that happen. God's Word can be a lifeline. The words can give breath back to us when we feel we can't breathe.
If you need a lifeline, a person or thing that you can rely on and trust. Trust in the Lord and in His Words.
Love in Christ,
Tera

Even To Your Old Age
It seems lately that A-G-E is catching up with me in full force. There seems to be a new ache each morning, some of us qualify as a senior citizen, and our once youthful bodies are not so vigorous anymore.
There will always be changes in our lives. Our health and the way we look will change. As the years pass we begin to show the wear and tear of life that we have endured. No, we can't turn back time, but there is one great thing about aging we can be thankful for, it is that we are secure in God's Hands. He will carry us through until the end. We praise Him for the beautiful way he made us and our times are in His Hands.
Isaiah 46:4, "And even to your old age I am he, and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you."
How beautiful is that promise? Our God is our God through all of our life, even when our hair is white with age. His power, His peace, His protection and love for us is still the same...today, tomorrow and forever.
Love in Christ,
Tera

Because HE first loved us
"We love Him because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19
I was walking through Hobby Lobby the other day, and I saw this verse on a little wall plaque.
I don't know why but my heart was touched, and it made me think, what would our world be like today if we followed this simple but powerful verse?
The Bible is filled with scripture about love and how much God loves us and how we are to love others. Everything He does for you and I is because He cares for us. There is nothing we can do to make God love us any less or any more than He does right now. Nothing. This same love is how He wants us to treat others.
Love needs to be experienced and expressed by all of us. When we feel loved we feel accepted, happy and content. Sadly, there are those around us that never feel any type of love from anyone, their lives are empty, lonely and sad. May God help us to be a testimony of His love because HE first loved us.

America! America! God shed His grace on thee
Memorial Day is more than the start of summer. It is an American holiday to honor and thank those men and women who courageously gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military. It originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. It is a day we remember the heroes who gave everything and the loved ones they left behind.
"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices."
President Harry S. Truman
America! America! God shed His grace on thee.
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.
Have a safe Memorial Day!

Our Character
The dictionary defines character as "the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual."
Our character is the most important thing we have to offer God and others. It defines us on the inside and what people see in us on the outside. It is shown in how we live our lives every day.
It is how we handle situations. It is our intentions and actions.
Everyone has character traits, some good and some bad. Our character is developed through humbleness, respect, honesty, accountability, compassion, forgiveness, and exercising godliness.
1 Timothy 4:7b: "and exercise thyself rather unto godliness." The Lord is pleased when we grow in character and mold ourselves into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
Lord, strengthen us and help us to grow in our character and conform us to Christ's image.
In Jesus name, Amen.
Love in Christ,

An Expected End
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11
We all have thoughts and make plans. Sometimes no matter how much we have prayed and prepared and feel it is God's plan, God's will, we find that all our efforts and planning does not work out the way we had hoped. For some this leads to disappointment and heartbreak and they give up on their dream or desire. For some it makes them strive and plan harder to achieve that dream. Others never give any thought about including God or praying about the plan for their lives they just live and do according to their own desires.
God has a plan for each one of us. His thoughts are of peace, not evil, hope, and an expected end.
I think God is saying in this verse, "I have everything under control, I know you, I love you, I know what I am doing. Trust me till the end."

Shine your light!
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16
Our purpose in this dark world is to shine our light and let others see Jesus in and through us.
We need to remember that most everyone is either going through a trial, coming out of a trial or about to go through a trial. Sometimes just being kind, having a caring heart, listening ear, or just a smile could change someone's day. Everyone loves a smile.
People need and want hope for tomorrow. They need to know that Jesus loves them and will bring light into their darkness and make their life worth living. As Christians, we are that light. When we let our light shine, they will see our good works and see we are followers of Jesus Christ.
So...shine your light!

To be happy in Jesus
In the chorus of a beautiful old hymn entitled Trust and Obey are these words:
Trust and obey, for there's no other way.
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Proverbs 16:20: " He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he."
My trust, obedience, and happiness in Jesus have strengthened and grown in the last couple of years. I can tell you that I have felt His presence, provision, peace, healing, and love for me over and over in my times of need. I believe God is God and HE is in control of everything about us.
Jesus gives us happy moments, exciting moments and thankful moments. Enjoy them!
Trust and obey, for there's no other way.

T-I-M-E
TIME.
I believe if you want to know what is most important in a person's life, look at how they use their time. God gives us all 24 hours a day. It is a precious gift from Him. So why do we not give back the gift of time to others?
Our lives today are so busy with kids, spouses, work, school, caregiving, relationships, the list could go on forever. But in all these things the one word that is left out is TIME.
Our time should not be what we do or how much we provide for those we love and care for, but how much we give of ourselves to them. We can provide the very best of the very best and think that's enough, but it's not. They want our time. Time showing them I care about you, I value you, I respect you, you are important to me.
Time is short, none of us know how short. Only God knows that. There are many things if we were to lose them, we could get back. When time is gone, it is gone forever.
Love in Christ,
Tera

Be An Example
1 Timothy 4:12; "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
I think sometimes our youth are looked down on because of their attitude, immaturities, and just simply put...they are youth. Paul is telling Timothy in this verse not to let others despise him because of his youth but to be an example. To walk and talk with respect and love to others.
It is our place as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends to shape and to teach our youth these traits. We have to teach them about Christ, Who HE is, His love for them, and how living a Christian life shapes and sustains them now and forever. Pray with and over them. Love them. Let them see our example to others (and to them) is with respect and love.
Don't let the world set their expectations to a low standard. Help them believe in themselves and teach them to be an example to others in their words, love, and faith.

Abiding in Christ
John 15:7 says, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
I have read this scripture many times, but in reading it this morning, the very first word hit a chord with me. It is small but mighty! The word IF. It is not saying can ye, or will ye, or when ye, it is saying "IF ye abide in me, and my words abide in you."
Abiding in Christ means we depend on Him and Him only, we have and enjoy oneness with Him, we accept His Word and have total and complete trust in Him. He is our all-sufficient source. Period.
This beautiful promise also sheds light on HIS words abiding in us. It is giving our heart, mind, and soul entirely over to Him and letting His laws and commandments become our laws and commandments. It is speaking the words of Jesus, His gospel, and the truths of it, at all times and in all ways.

Let the words of my mouth
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14
Our thoughts control our words and our actions. What if every morning before we started our day we prayed Psalm 19:14? How would our lives be different? Would our day be different?
How would we speak to others? How would we treat others?
The words we speak are a reflection of us. Our words reflect our heart, and our heart reflects our words. Our prayer should be to live for God and please God in every thought, word, action, and motive we think, say and do. It is up to us to make sure that the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts are acceptable to the Lord. He is our strength and our redeemer.

Strong and Courageous
I was reading about having strength and courage in times of weariness. I found in the book of Joshua chapter 1 verses 6-9 the Lord told Joshua not one time but three times to "be strong and courageous."
Just like Joshua, we need to be reminded several times when we are weary and tired and feel it's just too hard to stand firm and keep going. Our God is the same God that commanded Joshua many years ago to be strong and of good courage; to not be afraid, for the Lord was with him always.
So how does the Lord build our strength and courage? Our answer is in verse 8. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein."
We need to read God's Word every day. Meditate on it. Study it. Memorize it. Let the scriptures fill our hearts, minds, and souls with wisdom, guidance, and peace. We will learn to depend on God and His promise that HE is with us in every decision and situation we face.

A God-honoring path
Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Psalm 127:3: "Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord."
Clearly, His Word teaches us that training our children to know and obey God is the basis for living a life that is pleasing to Him.
As parents, we should help them understand their God-given gifts, abilities, and characteristics they were born with. God made them the way He wanted them to be. Our job is to encourage and help our children discover his or her own self and to choose God-honoring paths. Don't put pressure on them to live out our dream. Pray that God gives us wisdom, patience, and kindness to help them make the most of their life so that they can live in harmony with God's design ...not ours. It is hard to be disciplined by God, but He does it for our good. Same with our children, when we discipline them, they receive wisdom to make wise choices. When they mature, their success will show that they chose a God-honoring path and it will be a legacy everyone can enjoy with them.

The good fight of faith
"But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life..." 1 Timothy 6:11,12
What does it mean to fight the good fight of faith?
It is pressing on. It is standing up to the opposition. It is giving everything we have. It is pushing forward with confidence in the plan God has for us with no fear.
The life of a committed believer is a daily fight. There are always obstacles, hard times, criticism, things, satan, our flesh, and even people that will try to take our focus off of God and take away our peace. We have to stay focused when in battle remembering what we are laying hold to...eternal life. As a Christian, we know that our eternal future is secure. This gives us the courage and the strength we need to face any struggle. Satan will do everything he can to destroy us and make us stumble in our walk with the Lord, but he cannot take away our salvation.

Battle Scars
Battle Scars. We all have them and have a story for each one. I don't know about you, but I have a reasonably good track record of battle scars, failures, and blowing it. :(
So how do we continue to not fail, not blow it, not have battle scars?
#1. Acknowledge our failures and start making better choices.
#2. Stop and realize what we are doing. Is it right? Is it in God's plan for us?
#3. If sin is involved, confess it to God. He forgives and forgets it.
#4. Don't continue to beat yourselves up. Failure is not the end of the world. Get up, put it behind you and move forward.
#5. Our failures can become valuable info in helping us see the how, why, and where we went wrong, so we don't make the same mistake again.
There are many causes of failure that leads to battle scars. Whether sin caused it or whether they were not our fault, hopefully, it teaches us how much we need GOD and His mercy and grace in our lives every single day.
Love in Christ,
Tera

For God So Loved The World
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
I think John 3:16 was the first verse I memorized in Sunday School. I have probably read it and said it hundreds of times just like all of you. But do we really understand how much God loves us?
God's love is for everyone...in the whole world, He just didn't say He loves us...He proved His love. He gave His only Son as a sacrifice for our sin so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life...everlasting life. Who do you think was suffering the most as Jesus hung there on the cross? Being a parent, I would say the Father was suffering the most. This is how much God loves us.
I think sometimes we become so familiar with scripture that it loses its significant impact on us. As we read this verse today stop and take a fresh look at the cross. What does God's love mean to you?

Ye who are weary, come home
"Softly and Tenderly" is an invitational hymn that was written and composed by Will L. Thompson in 1880. This morning I have had the song in my head and on my heart, so I am sharing this as the devotion for today. There is a beautiful message here. I pray the words of this classic gospel song will bless you and move you as you read them.
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling
Calling for you and for me
See on the portals He's waiting and watching
Watching for you and for me
O for the wonderful love He has promised
Promised for you and for me
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon
Pardon for you and for me
Come home, come home
Ye who are weary, come home
Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling
Calling, O sinner come home
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling. Ye who are weary, come home.

HIS compassions fail not
"It is the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22,23
COMPASSION. I looked up the definition of compassion in the dictionary:
A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.
Is this not GOD? Is this not true LOVE?
God never ceases to love us no matter if we are running away from Him or toward Him, He is still faithful to love and show compassion. His faithfulness to us is as dependable as the sunrise each morning. We experience it through His love and mercy daily. PTL!
His compassions fail not. What a beautiful scripture to memorize and place in our hearts to remember every morning.

Casting all your care upon Him
"Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7
So many hurting people in our world today. Each one of us is going through something, or we know someone who is going through something, yet, even in our suffering, the sovereignty of our God prevails. HE can turn our trials into triumphs. This verse tells us to cast all our worries and cares upon God. It does not matter if our cares are big or small or what it is about we place them in His Hands.

Can you imagine if we claimed and lived out this verse what a difference our life would be?
How much happier we would be? The peace we would have? Oh, my goodness, I would love to have that, wouldn't you?
I pray today that God gives each one of us the wisdom and strength we need to cast all our care upon Him.
Love in Christ,

"I love to wait"...said No One Ever!
I do not know about you but waiting is probably one of the hardest things I have difficulty doing. It has to be learned and practiced. :(
We are always in a hurry and waiting gets in the way. We wait for the doctor. We wait in lines at the grocery store. We wait for a table at a restaurant. We wait in traffic. I could go on and on.
Learning to wait is hard but being in God's plan is so worth the wait.
Love in Christ,
Tera
We are always in a hurry and waiting gets in the way. We wait for the doctor. We wait in lines at the grocery store. We wait for a table at a restaurant. We wait in traffic. I could go on and on.
Too often, we make the mistake of not waiting on the Lord. We move forward with a plan or a desire and do not wait for HIS guidance, wisdom, clarity, and peace. I love this verse in Habakkuk 2:3:
"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."
"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."
Learning to wait is hard but being in God's plan is so worth the wait.

Running on empty
How many times do we feel we are running on empty? Our bodies tell us when it needs to be refueled just like the low fuel light in our vehicle tells us when it needs refueling.
There is always going to be something in our lives that will challenge us and drain us. We need to listen to our bodies that are overwhelmed, exhausted and weary with stress. It is called REST.
We also need to refresh our souls that may be going through spiritual dryness and weariness. It is called JESUS CHRIST.
Jesus said; "for without me ye can do nothing." (John 15:5b) How true this verse is. Without HIM we can do nothing. We need His love, His goodness, His faithfulness to keep us fueled for life.
Are you running on empty physically, emotionally, or spiritually? Get rest and refueled with Jesus.
Love in Christ,
Tera

Choose Joy Today!
Choose joy today! Easier said than done?
Joy is a choice we make. It is up to us how we start and finish our day.
When we get up in the morning and start thinking about all the negative things in our lives, what happens? The good, bad and ugly begins to steal our joy. Don't let that happen. We need to get up and immediately start focusing on all the blessings that God has given us. Thank Him for waking you up! That is an excellent way to start your day. Being grateful for all God has given us.
Jesus said in John 15:11: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
Have an attitude of gratitude and let your joy be full today and every day!
