To overcome any problem, whether it is physical, mental, or spiritual is to admit that we have a problem and we want to change.
There is a story in John 5:1-15 where Jesus asked a man who had been lying by the pool of Bethesda for thirty-eight years an important question: "Wilt thou be made whole?" The man answered the Lord with self-pity. "Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked."
Sometimes I think Jesus puts us to the test with that same question. "Wilt thou be made whole?"
Do we want to get well? Do we care enough about our problem to do something about it...even if it means we have to make an effort? Are we blaming others for our problem?
Jesus is gracious and cares about us deeply. He desires us to be whole. We were fearfully and wonderfully made by Him, and He knows how to fix us. Let's trust Him and be willing to let Him heal us.
Love in Christ,
Tera
